Fic title: Covalent Bonding

Covalent Bonding

[Covalent bonding is the sharing of paired electrons between atoms]

Hux looks out the viewport at the dark blue night of the galaxy. One star glimmers bright somewhere off to his left, Ryloth’s sun blazing far away. It gives just enough light that the darkness of space is not the pitch black of the empty loneliness far between the stars.

Not that Hux will ever be truly alone again.

He reaches one hand up to rub at the back of his neck. Kylo Ren had gripped it hard before he left that first time, months ago, his fingers digging into the soft skin just below Hux’s hair. He’d tilted their foreheads together.

Hux had almost pulled away, his skin prickling with the energy flowing from Kylo’s hands. Kylo had squeezed harder, though, and Hux had finally relaxed into his grip, breathing out slowly. They’d stood there for long moments, bare skin only touching where their foreheads met. Then Kylo had stepped away, nodding.

“What was that?” Hux had asked.

“I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before,” Kylo answered.

“Think of what?” Hux snapped.

“Snoke showed me the way. When he forced the scavenger and me together. Only… this is better. More refined. We can control it.”

“Control what?” Hux has managed to get out.

“Our bond,” Kylo had answered, smiling as he stepped onto his ship and the door closed behind him.

This way, we can work together. This way, we can build our dreams together. Kylo’s voice had echoed through Hux’s ears. It’s just what you asked for. A way to work together, to combine our strengths. You need me, Hux. And… I think I might need you.

Hux had shuddered at the time, but now, reaching across the galaxy, he finds the comforting chill of Kylo’s presence far away. Now, he smiles as he looks out the viewport, sharing the pleasure of the stars with Kylo. Now, he remembers taking Kylo into his bed, into his mind, and into his heart, and all that he feels is delight.
