Hux spends all day ensuring
everything is perfect for tonight.Their chambers are filled with
candles; little tealights dotted everywhere to add maximum romance to the atmosphere tonight, wanting everything to be
special for their third year together. Their first and second anniversary were
very lack-lustre, as both of them were much too occupied with Starkiller and
the hunt for Luke Skywalker to concentrate on their relationship, but with
Starkiller complete and Kylo being so close to finding the map, Hux has had a
few spare hours to plan things for tonight.A romantic meal, the finest food
that his savings could afford, wine and gifts galore. It has left Hux in a spot of
financial bother, but his Kylo Ren is
worth all the gold in the galaxy. On time, there’s a knock on
the door.Hux straightens out his black
suit and smooths down his hair, licking his lips before he opens the door to
the man he’d gladly give his heart
and soul for.“Ren,” Hux smiles, silently
disappointed that Kylo has ignored his request to dress smartly. “I see you chose to wear your robes.”“I presumed we’d be ripping
our clothes off as soon as I arrived. I didn’t see the point in dressing up,”
Kylo steps inside and his confusion at the dozens of candles is palpable.“Not even for the occasion?”
Hux closes the door, and takes Kylo’s cloak from his shoulders.“There’s an occasion?”
Hux rolls his eyes, though not
annoyed. He knows that Kylo has a lot on his mind so he certainly can’t justify
getting mad at him for forgetting today’s date.“Our anniversary, sweetheart,”
Hux says, stepping in front of Kylo to plant a kiss on his lover’s lips.“The anniversary of what?” Kylo scoffs. “The first time we
fucked? The first time you let me come on your face? The first time you called
me Daddy?”Hux frowns but shakes it off. “The
anniversary of us, Ren. Getting together.
The beginning of our relationship.”All of the colour drains from
Kylo’s face, right before Hux’s eyes. The Knight pales significantly as he
moves, taking one step backwards and putting a little space between himself and
Hux, though Hux feels like it’s a sudden canyon’s width.“Ren? What’s wrong?” Hux
stretches his arm out, reaching for Kylo, but hesitates to touch him for the
first time in three years.“Relationship?” Kylo exhales, shaking his head. “Hux. We’re fucking. Shit, that’s all we’ve been doing.”
“Kylo, don’t be silly. We’ve held
hands, we’ve shared meals—”“Hux. We’re co-commanders who fuck. There’s no relationship.”
“Wh-what…?”
Hux’s world comes crumbling
down on top of him hard, so hard that
his knees buckle underneath him and he’s forced to grab onto the nearby chair,
lowering himself down into it whilst his wide eyes stare at the floor. His head
and his heart are pounding, his chest is actually
hurting as the heartbreak becomes so strong that it feels like a physical
pain. How is it possible that he
believed they were in a relationship when they weren’t? Has he been so infatuated with Kylo that he’s failed to
notice that his feelings aren’t reciprocated? Blinded by love? No, no. It’s
been three years of happiness for
Hux; it’s the happiest he’s felt in his life,
yet it’s been a lie?He doesn’t realise that he’s
hyperventilating until Kylo’s face is in front of his eyes and he vaguely hears
his voice—his soft and beautiful voice—telling him to ‘breathe.’Hux controls himself,
steadying himself and suppressing the rising panic attack before it can fully
take hold.“I’m sorry, Hux,” Kylo says,
shaking his head. “I thought you felt the same as I did. No strings, just sex.”Hearing it put so
emotionlessly sends another pang of pain through Hux’s chest.“Leave,” Hux mutters, turning
away, unable to look at Kylo, unwilling to see those brilliantly dark eyes that
will no longer send pleasant shivers across his skin but will haunt his dreams
instead. “Just. Leave me.”“Hux—”
“Leave.”
Hux closes his eyes, feeling
like each of Kylo’s footsteps away from him are actually steps on his heart. It
hurts.The candles still flicker,
their meal goes cold on the table, and Hux reaches for the smallest of the
boxes in the little pile of presents that he’d set out for Kylo. It’s a red
velvet box, though now a little wet as Hux’s tears drip onto the lid. He sighs,
opening it slowly to reveal a ring inside of it, thick and silver with a single
diamond in the centre. Marriage is now lightyears away from Hux so he closes
the box and tosses it across the room, uncaring of where it lands. How terrible it is, Hux
thinks, thinking back to his father and step-mother, to love something that
cannot love you back.Noooooooooooooo! Poor Hux, he just needs some love and no one will give it to him. 💔💔💔 The last sentence is killer.
