“This is not how we end. I will find you, in this universe and every other that will follow, until we have our happy ending. I will burn worlds to the ground until all left is you and me and stars above. I love you, that all matters now and I was fool for ever doubting that. You are my crown, and my Empire will be complete only with you by my side as you were meant to be.”
Hux seems determined, like a man on a mission. When he leans closer, he kisses Ben fully on his mouth. The kiss means to say, I miss you, I love you and I am sorry without any words being spoken out loud.
It ends before it has a chance to truly start and Ben grasps for air. He wants to shake his head, to say that nothing can change between two of them. But he cannot. Before their ways parted, they laid in the darkness and traced each other’s skin. Ben remembers how he told his goodbye to Hux that second time and wished he could return back.“This is not how we end,” Hux repeats. “You said you loved me. And the next morning you were gone.”
“You were meant to take the crown. ” Ben cannot bear to look at him. “I didn’t belong by your side. I wouldn’t be allowed to. And my sister needed me.”
“Your sister is heartless creature,” Hux corrects him darkly. “Elizabeth is hardly a person you knew. She loves you but her love comes with a certain price. Ren-”
“Ben,” corrects him Ben quietly. “I am not him anymore.”
“Ben,” Hux tastes those words on his tongue and the presses their foreheads together and grabs Ben’s chin, so the younger man has to look him in the eye.
“You belong with me. You’ve always belonged with me. I want you by my side and I intend to fight for you. Your place is here.” His face is pale and eyes sharp. “As my equal. As my husband.” And then he is gone, leaving Ben grasping in now empty corridor, with the kiss lingering on his lips like a promise.
