8. As an apology
(several cw apply here if you want to ctrl+F to the bottom where there are “notes”; if this one doesn’t float your boat send it again and I’ll write a happier one 🙂 )
“Stop,” Hux orders. He squeezes his eyes shut, but Kylo’s all around him. There’s nowhere to run. (Has there ever?)
“I love you,” Kylo repeats. He sounds surer this time, but Hux knows how easy it is for Kylo to lie through his teeth. His breath hits Hux’s face and he scrunches his nose.
“Look at me,” Kylo murmurs.
“Stop,” Hux says again.
“Why?” Kylo asks. Hux shoves against him, but Kylo has a firm grip, and the wall behind him is unyielding. Nowhere to hide. “I should have told you earlier. I should have told you how much you do for the Order, how much you do for me…”
Hux snarls and twists his left wrist as far as he can. The little blade he keeps up his sleeve refuses to slide down, and Hux’s eyes fly open in frustration.
Kylo’s–unreadable. Hux stares, momentarily frozen in more ways than one. He’d expected Kylo to look blank with the lie, but instead there’s nothing but turmoil. Slowly, carefully, and without breaking eye contact, Kylo reaches under Hux’s sleeve and extracts the blade. He drops it; Hux hears it clatter but cannot see where it has gone.
“You don’t love me,” Hux says slowly. “Supreme Leader.”
“Kylo,” Kylo says. His pupils are enormous and his breathing is even. Hux feels the universe unravelling. “Say it.”
“Stop this,” Hux insists, voice even quieter. He glances to his right; he can’t tell if he wants someone to come by or not. No one could–or would–save him from this–this.
“Look at me,” Kylo orders. Hux does. “Say my name.”
“Kylo,” Hux spits. “You don’t love me. Stop insisting that you do and release me at once.”
Kylo does. He watches as Hux peels himself off of the wall, as Hux searches the ground for his knife. It’s right before his eyes in moments, a scant centimeter from the tip of his nose.
“Dropped this,” Kylo murmurs. “I hope you won’t consider using it on me again.”
“Why, because you love me?” Hux says with a sneer. He makes to snatch the blade back. Kylo catches his arm.
“Careful,” Kylo murmurs. He draws the knife across Hux’s cheek before sliding the grip into his palm. “It’s quite sharp.”
notes : Kylo is a manipulative piece of shit who’s trying to sway Hux to his side by claiming that he loves him in lieu of apologizing for his bad behavior; he holds Hux against a wall / forces him to look at him / generally exhibits a dubious understanding of consent; also, there’s the suggestion of knifeplay.
