Techie slumps before sagging over and pressing his cheek to the cool, hard surface of the table. He knew Hux didn’t mean any harm, but his enthusiasm had been somewhat dampened. “But I f-found something,” he says quietly, almost a whine.
“Oh?” Hux asked, smiling and running his fingers lightly through his brother’s hair. “That explains it a bit. Can you promise me to catch some sleep after you tell me, though?”
Techie perks up, sitting straighter and propping his face up on his elbows. “I promise! L-Listen, Armie: I was able to narrow down m-mom’s location to a manageable area! All I h-had to do was triangulate the most recent data points and then narrow and refine the search results-”
He spoke progressively faster with an excited tint to his cheeks, tripping over his words in a hurry to rush them all out so Hux could hear.
Techie’s fists balled up to mirror the surge of determination he felt. Yes, he’d heard quite a bit about Kylo in his time as a technician. This would be different, though. Up close and personal…
“I’ve h-heard some stuff and seen the aftereffects,” he admits. “But I. I still… w-want this. Want you. It’s okay to sh-show me your not-so-good side, and I’ll show you mine, too.”
He smiled. “Brave of you,” he said. “What are some of the worst parts of you that you think would match mine?” He stepped in and rested his head on Techie’s shoulder. It was nice. Just having someone so willing to accept him.
Placing his hands gently over Kylo’s head, cradling him close, Techie tried not to let the genuine panic show on his face. He’d been a terrible douchebag for so many years…
With a shivering-scared heart, Techie works up the courage to say, “I was an ad-d-dict. If it got me high, I’d use it. At the time, I was married and my family… Th-they knew. I wasn’t a g-good dad or a h-husband; far from it. Lost my j-job in construction, so I n-needed to feed my habit in others ways… You could find me b-b-blowing dudes in an alleyway on any given night.”
Techie takes a deep, shuddering breath. It almost turns into an outright sob. “Kylo… I was worthless.”
This took way too long to be finished considering how relatively simple it is – I felt like there was something missing from their expressions in the cleaned up version of the sketch, and Kylo crying finally fixed it. Seems like I finally reached THAT state with there two. Meaning, heartbreak and angst galore are here to stay. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
