Hi, Mattie… There’s something I want to ask you.

Matt looked up from the thing he had been working on.
“ sure techie you can ask me anything. You know that.”

“If I were to s-set you up with someone… In a, erm, hypoth-thetical scenario… would you be okay with either a b-boy or a girl? Or someone else?”

Techie’s cheeks are flushed rose-red from embarrassment. It had taken a good three hours of psyching himself up for this before he’d gotten the courage to ask.

Hypothetically matt knew what that meant. If Techie was looking to set him up with someone else that meant he had no interest him. Why would he as he was with someone else. Maybe matt would like the guy he was being set up with. He wanted to frown but forced a smile on his face.

“ guys I like guys.”

Techie’s entire face transformed. There was no way he could hide his utter joy; his pupils whirred wide open and lips parted with an upward tick to them, eyebrows raising. “Oh! M-Me too! Guys are great!!” he blurted out, so damn excited his heart felt full, fingers grasping Matt’s sleeve and tangling up in it.

If Matt only liked men, then he couldn’t be dating Kess!! Techie sort of swooned forward like he wanted to kiss Matt. Which he did want. A lot.

Matt felt his heart fluter as he watched techies facial expression change. He could t hold back the wide smile that pulled on his lips when he confessed to him that he too liked guys.

At least that was one less thing matt had worry about as a reason techie wouldn’t want to go out with him. Still it didn’t mean he would like him. Matt probably wasn’t even his type.

“ yeah they really are aren’t they?” He said with a small smile.

He looked down to where techi s band was twisted in his sleeve. Even that light bit of contact caused matt to flush.

Still riding a wave of euphoria, Techie tugged insistently at his sleeve until they’d gotten even closer. “Matt… I d-didn’t really want to s-set you up with anyone.” Just me, he thinks desperately. Just ME.

But this is crazy. Techie’s lost his mind. He should let go of him right now and stop begging Matt for a kiss with his eyes.

His grip on the fabric tightens.

>Foxglove speaking< How are your wounds? Do you need anything?

techiehux:

“Hi, F-Foxglove!” Techie looked up from the greenhouse’s rows of crops, stopping to wipe at his nose and managing to get dirt on his face. Months of working amongst nature with his new gang had given his cheeks a rosy glow, and he’d even managed to put on enough weight to form a little pouch over his tummy, no longer skin and bones.
“I’m d-doing a lot better. I owe you my l-life,” he smiled.

“Ha, n-not so much! Some th-thorns got in my thumb. See?” Techie holds out his hand with the thumb out, unbothered by Foxglove wiping the dirt from his face. He was getting better about being touched, too. There’s a gash from where the thorn ripped his skin, reddened and bleeding. Luckily, he hadn’t gotten any dirt in it while working.

“Well hello, Billiam,” Kess beamed, pulling over a chair and sitting across from him at his workbench, “How are you?”

techiehux:

“B-Billiam?” Techie couldn’t stop the helpless laugh that slipped past his lips. That nickname was a first! He took in the woman’s appearance and scrunched up his brows in thought once the giggles dissolved. Hardly anyone approached him unless they knew Matt or wanted him to do their shift. She didn’t look like a tech, at least. “Are you… Matt’s f-friend?” Putting his toolbox aside to clear space on the workbench for her, Techie gave her a small, lopsided smile.

Techie presses his hands together in a praying position, palm-to-palm, and then rests his lips against the tops of his fingernails. This could either end very good or very bad. “Kess. I… accept. I’ll do it. But I need your w-word that this will be untraceable. My future with the First Order is on th-the line, here.”

My kids’ future. My future with Matt. It’s all in peril. But the payoff is worth the risk, isn’t it?

Thomas needs a new respirator, and surgery on his lungs if he can afford it. Zoe’s working her ass off to cover the bills.

Yeah. It’s worth it.

Techie sits up straighter and reaches his hand out. “Deal, Kess. Th-thank you.”
