So what do you think of Matt little crush? Is he cute?

“Oh. I’m s-sorry for int-t-truding.” Techie’s face falls and his hand slips off from Matt’s shoulder. Surely they were talking about their relationship or something romantic; definitely something Techie had no right to overhear.

“I’ll leave you t-two alone, then.”

“ you’re fine techie we were finished with whatever we were talking about. You can stay I insist it will be fun. Maybe we can watch a movie or something.”

Matt didn’t want to make techie feel like he wasn’t welcome here because he was. Was he ever wanted there but he wouldn’t force it on him. If he had their places to be he understood.

“ I mean you don’t have to I’m sure kess won’t mind another person for the movie.”

Techie looked to Kess and asked, hesitant, “Is it r-really alright if I stay?” They seemed to be very close… he didn’t want to intrude. Couples need alone time, right? A sharp ache in his chest reminds him to stop being so fucking pathetic. He needs to be happy that Matt has a girlfriend!

(Easier said than done.)

@smugglingscavanger

Techie bites his bottom lip, anxious. Did he screw everything up? “Yeah… We d-don’t have to tell them that we’re friends, th-though. It can be our secret! R-Right?” He clasps his hands together in his lap and stares hard at them like they hold his cue-cards for the rest of the conversation. A quick, sideways glance towards Matt has his heart beating faster.

“I’d n-never let them get in the way of our friendsh-ship, Mattie. You mean a lot to me.” Here Techie gives him that smile again, and gently pats him on the shoulder. Were he a braver man, he’d rest his head on Matt’s shoulder and tell him just how much he cares for him… romantically.

But he isn’t brave, not at all. Techie goes through life cowering and flinching. Maybe one day he’ll take the reigns and confess to Matt that he’s out-of-his-mind in love with him.

Techie nodded vigorously, still embarrassed but unwilling to take back what he’d said since Matt looked pleased and flustered. It was a very good look on him. He got the sudden urge to leap forward and kiss him, the rest of the world be damned! But Matt would probably be grossed out. Techie wasn’t even sure if he liked men.

“You could b-be a model,” Techie blurts. “Nice, um, muscles!” What the fuck?! This stupid mouth of his couldn’t shut up, could it? Well, it turned out it clamped shut faster than the speed of light the minute Techie read Matt’s note.

Kylo Ren and Matt? Related? That explained so much… The problem was, how was he going to break it to him that Techie’s own brother was General Hux? Would he say, “Our brothers are enemies!” very cheerfully and then continue on like normal? What does someone do in this situation?

Techie’s brow furrowed, and he leaned back towards Matt without realizing, seeking comfort.

Matt had been honest with him… time to return the favor.

He wrapped his hand around Matt’s adorably oversized ear and brought his lips very close so nobody would overhear his confession. “You s-secret is safe with me, Mattie. But, uh. Hux is my brother.”

“ w-what are you taking about? Kess please tell me you didn’t tell him?!”

“Tell who? I said nothing to the cute orange boy, don’t worry!”

“ he’s my best friend and I just don’t want anything to get ruined.”

“I’d never talk to your friend without you knowing! Your secret is safe with me.”

“ thanks kess I’m sorry I flipped out on you.”

“Did I… m-miss something?” Secret? What secret? Techie got a little nervous. What if Matt was getting transferred off Starkiller? He’d walked into the conversation too late to overhear.

“ techie you’re here.” He asked his face flushing.

“ did you hear any of that?”

“I heard enough t-to be worried… Matt, did something happen? Are you in t-trouble?” Techie went over to Matt and gently placed his hand on his broad shoulder, distressed.

Techie looked up from his desk, startled at first. When he saw it was Matt, the tension drained from his shoulders. He was the only other person who had the pass-code to his quarters, so Techie shouldn’t have been scared (but old habits die hard.) “S-Sure!” He gently put down the copper figure he’d been working on and stood up from the chair, straightening out his back with a pop.

Matt laughed watched the man jump at his words. The man really did seem to frighten all too easily, he should have known better than to pop in on him like this. He looked down at the wires that had been placed on the desk.

“ working on anything interesting?” He asked as they left the mans quarters.

Techie walked with him side by side through the corridors, their arms brushing. “Interesting? W-Well, I was making a wire friend for myself. Any loose w-wires I find and twist em up. You can m-make really cool stuff like that! One time I made a, uh, mini-me.”

Techie half expects Matt to only pretend to be listening, or not to care about what he’s saying. No, he reminds himself firmly. Matt is my friend. My only friend. He’s not like that.

Techie’s hand twitches. He wishes Matt wasn’t only his friend…

Matt couldn’t help but to laugh when he heard what techie was doing in his quarters. He found the mans hobby rather as he had said interesting. Not everyone would have the imagination or skill to want to turn scraps of wire into figures.

“ oh that is interesting, sounds like fun. You have to show me some of them some time. Especially that mini you one that sounds cute. Maybe you can make one of me sometime. What do you say?”

He bumped his side into techies playfully as they walked Into the cafe. He was silent while he went to grab his food which was never really what he wanted it never was with the Order. He waited for techie to get his food before finding them an empty table to sit at.

Techie nodded eagerly, pleased to be given permission to make a wire friend of Matt! The thought had crossed his mind before, but it had seemed creepy at the time. With Matt’s go ahead? He would do it.

Tray loaded up with food he’d not be able to stomach, Techie slips into the seat next to Matt and tries to ignore people’s stares. They look at him like he’s a side-show at a circus; a freak to be oogled. Doubly so when he’s with Mattie. Already there are rumors about them.

“I was th-thinking of selling some,” he whispers to Matt, snug against his side and food untouched. “Yours will b-be, um, free though. Obviously.”

Matt looked at techies tray full of food knowing he probably wouldn’t be eating much or if any of it. The man always seemed to do this whenever he went to the caf with matt which wasn’t too often. Matt didn’t care that he looked like he was eating like normal. The reason he invited techie to Luch was to make sure he at least ate something no matter how small that amount was.

His eyes wondered around the caf as he could feel the eyes on them. It wasn’t anything unusual as they always seemed to draw stares. They never were the most popular people on the ship but that didn’t matter. Matt didn’t need any one other than techie.

“ don’t worry about them. They don’t know anything about you. Just ignore them okay?” He knocked his foot against techies as he spoke.

He looked up from his lunch when techie spoke of selling the figures. He had not doubt that he could make some money selling them seeing how cute they looked. A smile spread on his face. If techie had wanted to charge him he would have happily paid the price. Still knowing he wasn’t made him happy.

“Thanks. I’ll see if I can drum up some business for you.”

When Matt glanced at his tray, Techie turned a bright pink. Oh. He’d forgotten all about eating… Matt was more important; always. He picks up a plastic spork and pushes the food around while he says, “I’ll try.”

Matt said to ignore them, so he’s got to try, at least! After a few moments of comfortable silence with his best friend, Techie was able to push their judgmental gazes from his mind.

When he spoke up once again, tucking some of his long red hair behind an ear, Techie smiled and said, “You d-don’t have to. Aren’t you on bad t-terms with your, um, coworkers as it is? If you start ‘p-peddling my wares’ they’ll be pissed, right?” Stars, he wanted Matt’s life to be perfect. But there was very little he could do to help.

“ you don’t have to eat everything just try to eat something that’s all I’m asking. It’s not good to not eat as much as you do.”

Matt would always worry about techie. It didn’t seem anyone else was going to do that for him so he would gladly make sure other man was taking care of himself like he was supposed to.

He knew why people didn’t like him too much. It was because they thought he was Kylo Ren so did there best to just skirt around him and avoid him. He didn’t care too much as he’d prefer to work alone anyways.

“ yeah You can say that again. They think I’m Kylo Ren.”he whispered under his breath so only techie could hear.

He didn’t care what the others thought of him only what the red head next to him thought. The wire figures he made were cute anyways so he didn’t think people could get too mad at him for trying to sell them but he’d thought that before only to have it bite him in the butt.

He leaned his shoulder to bump it into techies. That was the only form of contact he was brave enough to show to the other man. Anymore and he was afraid it would make the other man uncomfortable and he could afford to lose the only firend he had on the ship. All because he had a little crush on the guy.

“ don’t worry about me I’ll be fine.”

Techie takes a spoonful of mysterious brown protein mush and swallows it down with an audible shudder. Yuck. “Wh-what the fuck was that? Leftovers from f-four years ago?” he jokes, giving Matt that cute little lopsided smile. This specific variant, with the crinkles at the edges of his eyes and the hint of dimples, was reserved just for Matt. “I’d k-kill for some pizza.”

At Matt’s whispered confession, Techie shot him a quizzical glance. “Kylo Ren? R-Really?” He asked this very quietly, as though mentioning him would summon the volatile man. “Well, you…” Techie trailed off, realizing what he’d been about to say.

You’re both ridiculously handsome.

“Neverm-mind,” he said, too quickly. “I don’t s-see a resemblance.” He picked some more at his food before working up his courage to say, “I’ll worry about you anyway, Mattie.”

Matt feels sympathetic for techie. The man never eats hardly and when he does it has to be tasteless mush. If he could get him pizza he would he would get him anything he wanted ifnot kept him happy. He laughs full out at his joke not caring who could hear.

The look on techies face as he smile makes Matt’s knees slightly weak it always did. Thank the lord he was sitting down then bithe would do almost anything to keep having the ginger look at him in that way.

He looks quizzically at the ginger next to him as he stops mid sentence. Techie was going to say something and that quipped Matt’s intrest. It could be hard to get the other technician to talk about something when he didn’t want to but matt thought he could make him speak.

“ well I want?” He asked as he leaned in closer to look at him.

“ you don’t see a resemblance really I find that hard to believe?…I can let you on to a little secret if you promise to keep it?”

Techie’s wide eyes meet Matt’s, and he knows he’s been caught. “I was g-going to say th-that… you’re both, um, handsome,” he squeaks. The truth slips out of him and he’s terrified of what Matt will say! Will this make their friendship awkward? It’s far from a love confession, but maybe he can spot the adoration on Techie’s face and will pull back.

“I’m n-not good at secrets,” Techie admits. He’s unconsciously scooted a few inches away from Matt so their thighs no longer brush. Even that tiny bit of contact feels like a sensory overload right now. “But! I’ll work really h-hard to keep yours!”

Lips locked with a padlock, zippered shut, tightened with tape, sealed with superglue. Matt’s secret is precious cargo and Techie won’t allow himself to betray that.
