“I, um, just wanted some c-copper wires,” Techie admits, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. “There are these t-tiny figures I like to make with them, b-but I left all of my wire friends behind at Peach Trees.” This is such an embarrassing thing to say! Techie convinces himself that he isn’t a child to be needing his toys, like MaMa used to say before she’d crush them under her heel.

“I don’t know h-how we’ll do it, but for once I’m optimistic,” Techie confesses. He relaxes at the comforting feeling of Armitage’s arm around his waist.
Techie shook his head with a small smile and pulled Armitage into a one-armed hug. It was awkward, somewhat uncomfortable as well… but it was sincere. “I w-want to make up for lost time. Be brothers again. Oh! Um, if y-you want to, of course.” He quickly pulled back and had trouble meeting Hux’s eyes.
This was… more than Techie had ever had in his life. Tears pooled in his eyes and he wiped hastily at them before they could fall and streak his cheeks, embarrassed to have his new-found brother see him be… such a mess, honestly. “It’s s-so nice,” Techie chokes out, and promptly feels guilty for even considering asking for anything else, given how hospitable Hux has been.
“It’s the best I could manage,” he said, looking around. “If you need anything here, just let me know, okay? You know where to find me. I will be coming here later to give you your assignments, your codes, all of that orientation stuff, ok?” He looked around. “Do you have any questions?”
“No… I don’t,” Techie says, in awe. His gaze darts from side to side, trying to take everything in his new home at all once. A stray strand of messy orange hair falls from his haphazard ponytail. Then, abruptly, he adds, “Um, H-Hux? Could you come here f-for a second?”

Techie gave a quiet sigh of relief. Threat neutralized?
He peeked out from behind Hux and waved awkwardly, more than a little shy. The co-commander, Kylo Ren, was muscular and, though not conventionally attractive, was still handsome in his own way. Techie gulped. It was more than fear that made his heart race!
“H-hello, Commander Ren…”
Techie wouldn’t mind if Ren bit him…
The naughty thought flickered over his face for a moment before he covered it up with a neutral expression. His pink cheeks gave him away no matter what, though!
“Wh-what does Commander Ren do, exactly?”
Hux looked at his brother closely.
“I am not sure anyone really
even knows. He is a sort of mystic. Deals with the Force more than I am
willing to indulge. But our Supreme Leader sees immense value in him,”
he explained. “He usually wears a dark helmet and a hood to make himself
seem more intimidating. Do you want me to arrange for him to meet with
you to make sure he’s playing nice?”
“That s-sounds good,” Techie says, trying to stifle the smile that threatens to break out on his lips. Ren does not seem to wish him harm… maybe another visit will prove him an ally? The silly, sudden infatuation Techie now has with Kylo Ren is probably the result of an affection-starved optimist hell-bent on having a happy ending with all the stops. (He knows this, he knows, but still he hopes.)
“Can we go see my room n-now? And…can I request s-something for it?” There’s a few little things he’d like to own in order to settle in smoothly.

Techie swallows hard. “Will you be b-back to visit me until I can leave the m-medbay?” He can’t bring himself to believe all this, actually. So many good things have never happened to him at once! The possibility that this is all a dream is too scary to consider, but his hold tightens on Hux’s sleeve all the same.
“I’m r-ready,” Techie smiled, and regretfully pulled away from his brother’s warm embrace. He’d already dressed in some simple, clean clothes, and he didn’t have anything to take with him. So Techie was ready to check out his new room!
Hux smiled and led his brother down some corridors to get him to the room. MD-38 followed them dutifully, unwilling to let Techie out of his sight.
They passed a couple of indifferent stormtroopers until a cloaked, mask, dark figure stopped them close to Hux’s quarters. “Hux,” he said. “I’ve been looking for you.” He glanced at Techei and fell silent for a moment.
“Not now, Ren,” Hux replied, irritated. “I am somewhat busy. Send me a request for a meeting to my datapad like everyone else.”
“Did you clone yourself? Did you actually make good on that threat you keep making?” Ren asked, seemingly not hearing Hux’s response.
Techie shrank under Ren’s heavy, accusational gaze and took a step behind Hux instinctively. His eyes whirred frantically as they darted from Ren’s face to the ground, unsure of where to look.
Yet, despite his terror, the comment stung. A clone? Techie was his own person! “I’m n-not a clone,” he said, careful to keep any irritation out of his voice.
This man made goosebumps break out all over his skin; surely he was dangerous.
