“D-don’t… Please, don’t eat that! They take inventory n-nightly. If anything is missing…” he followed up his warning with an audible gulp. Techie moved away from the door and took a little baggie out of his toolbelt compartment.

He held it out to her, still some distance away, as if she were a wild animal readying to bite his arm off. “Eat th-this. It’s my lunch.” And, true to his word, there was a non-threatening sandwich inside the little bag.

He quickly closed the door behind him and locked it, slumping against it and staring at the girl with wide, whirring eyes.

“A-are… Are you h-hungry?” Techie asked at last. His hands shook by his side despite the fact that he’d clenched them into tight fists and pressed them, hard, into his sides.

He waved at some troopers who patrolled the outside corridor, only one of which acted like he existed. A plastic smile was fixed on his face by the time he entered in his technician override code to enter the consumables’ room.

And then he promptly froze as he realized he wasn’t alone.
