The sudden announcement came to a surprise to Phasma- along with a twinge of excitement. She always wanted to see what motherhood felt like, how she would act with a child of her own.

“Techie, that sounds, um… interesting,” she said, trying to hide her excitement.

A sudden fear overtakes him. “W-will you have to go out for missions while you’re, um, p-pregnant, Lenina? I r-really hope n-not!” If she’s denied a maternity leave or something of the sort, Techie will have to take it up with his own brother.

“I certainly hope not,” she said, her face falling. All her life, she truly wanted a child, to give them the love that she saw mothers give their babies while she was on Parnassos. This tiny, fragile being inside of her could be in jeopardy if someone wounded her- or worse, she was killed.

“I’ll talk with Hux, o-okay? That’s not going to h-happen,” he assures her, heart pounding. Techie is going to be sick if Lenina must continue her duties as usual.

“I certainly hope so,” she said, whispering a prayer that Hux would listen to Techie’s pleas rather than ignoring them. As much as she admired Armitage, she knew that he could be brutal and cunning, focusing more on his music or the First Order than the welfare of others.

Techie (fearfully, trembling) went to speak with his brother. The door slid open and he met Hux at his desk, taking a deep breath.

An hour passed.

Techie had told Phasma that he’d message her within an hour to let her know what he’d discussed with him, but…

There was nothing but silence.

Phasma waited with baited breath, before setting down her datapad and picking up her comm.

“Techie? Techie, is everything alright? Should I go in there?”

At that very moment, he burst in through the door of their room and grasped her shoulders, eyes wide. “Hux has agreed to let you take l-leave, but there’s a catch…”

Techie swallows hard and looks down. “I have to go off-ship for a few months on an assignment. So… I won’t see our baby’s birth.” He looks devastated, eyes even more red than usual around the rim and bottom lip split from his nervous biting.

She was elated to hear the news, but somehow sad about the other option. “Darling, what if you,” she swallowed hard, “die?”

Obviously, Techie didn’t want to die. But the alternative was much worse. “I’d rather die than have you or our b-baby hurt,” he whispers, cupping Lenina’s cheek in his calloused hand. There’s a glassy look to his eyes that signaled he was close to tears.

“We can always t-talk next time you come, Armitage. I don’t m-mind if you take a nap!” Techie says, a little too quickly to be normal.

There’s something he’s avoiding.

Something big.

Hux noted the quick response and found it just a little suspicious. Was he so tired he turned paranoid? Or was there something to it?

“Do you want me to go, Billy? If you do, I can go…” But the thought still hurt a little.

“N-no!” Techie lurched forward, grabbing Hux’s sleeve to keep him in place, cheeks red. “There’s someth-thing I need to tell you, okay? B-but you have to promise n-not to be mad…”

His eyes were wide and scared; hoping, praying, that his brother would understand what he was about to say.

His eyes widen with sudden hope. There’s thinly veiled anxiety on his face, as though what he’s about to agree to do will leave him defenseless. “I… Th-thank you,” Techie breathes. “What sh-should I, um, do?”

He shook out his hair and took his overcoat off. “First of all, sit down comfortably. This will not be able to help you shed everything off right away, but if you practice, you should gradually become more and more comfortable with your anxieties. It’s mostly breath exercises that end up soothing your mind.”

He listened carefully to Ren’s words and then seated himself, crosslegged, in front of him on the floor. Techie leaned his back against the soft, thick covers on the bed and let his mechanical eyes slip shut. There was silence for a few seconds, but not an unconfortable one.

He cracked open one eye. “The breathing… Can you sh-show me what r-rythym to follow?”

He stops his futile attempt at falling asleep and sits up once more, fixing his quizzical gaze on Nao. “Well, I don’t w-want you to sleep here either! It isn’t very, um, comfortable,” he admits with a sheepish, embarrassed grin.

The next sentence is out before he can properly think it over: “We could j-just share the bed.” Once that thought turns verbal, Techie feels a hot blush bloom from head to toe. How could he SAY that?! Stupid, stupid! You moron, absolute moron!!

His bad habit of blurting things out was something he’d never quite been able to train himself out of.

“Okay, share the bed. Get up, go on.” Her answer is calm, with a lack of anger but she folds her arms and waits for him to make the first move.

‘WHAT the-Share the BED?!? What the HELL are you doing Naomi and WHY are you letting it happen?!’ Internally, she screams at herself. Sharing the bed felt like such an idiotic idea not to mention an embarrassing one but… she hadn’t been close to anyone in years and she wasn’t prepared to make Techie sleep on the floor. Nor was she prepared to forsake the offer of a bed. Sharing was the most logical and she took it but internally she was freaking out probably as much as Techie was.

Techie stands up from his odd half-crouch on the ground and shuffles over to Nao with wide eyes before delicately laying himself over the very edge of the bed. He’s rigid like a plank, not even pulling the covers over himself.

“G-Goodnight, Nao,” he says through gritted teeth. Awkward. Veeery fucking awkward. There will be no sleep for Techie, but hopefully she will be able to catch some shut-eye.

She walked over to the bed and climbed over Techie daintily, before settling on the other side of the bed. She pulled back the covers and slid underneath them before pulling them over her shoulders.

The foreign feel of the bed combined with the presence of the blanket brought back blurry, subtle memories which she shoved back down as soon as she felt them. The bed wasn’t THAT comfortable she told herself bitterly fully knowing that to her, it was. She unintentionally stared angrily at Techie.

“Why are y-you, um, l-looking at me like that?” Techie whispered, spooked. Her glare made goosebumps break out all over his skin. He shifted onto his side to try and check if Nao really was giving him the stink eye. His peripheral vision told no lies; Nao looked mad.

Techie bit back a yelp and forced himself to stay still instead of throwing himself backwards off the bed. A knife? Was she going to stab him?! His heart pounded, hard, and he screwed his eyes shut.

Mitaka whimpers softly and looks up at the man. He didn’t look very frightening compared to his last master. He was afraid of most people after him though. Mitaka nods quickly and closes his eyes tightly, expecting to get hit.

@techiehux

“Wh-why the fuck do you smell s-so int-toxic-c-cating?” Techie pants, already shoving Dopheld’s pants down to finger at his rim while he latches onto a nipple and sucks a hickey onto it.

Mitaka gasps loudly and arches his back. He kicks his pants the rest of the way off and instinctively tries to press his hips back against Techie’s fingers, trying to get them inside himself. “F-fuck.. you s-smell d-delicious as well..” he gasps

“S’good thing y-you’re open already,” Techie purrs, a hot, possessive feeling welling up in his throat. He slips two fingers inside Dopheld and gropes for his prostrate again, finding it much quicker the second time around.

“I, um, just wanted some c-copper wires,” Techie admits, fidgeting with the hem of his shirt. “There are these t-tiny figures I like to make with them, b-but I left all of my wire friends behind at Peach Trees.” This is such an embarrassing thing to say! Techie convinces himself that he isn’t a child to be needing his toys, like MaMa used to say before she’d crush them under her heel.

“Oh,” Hux said, looking a little uncomfortable. “I apologize. I didn’t think… I just wanted to get you out of there so badly, I didn’t think of taking the time to let you gather your things. Of course you can have all of the wire you want. Is there anything else I could replace for you?”

“That’s all, really. You’ve d-done more than enough,” Techie mumbles, shy once again. “Going b-back for my stuff was a shitty idea anyway! We’d get our h-heads blown off.”

Techie follows Hux to the door and stands by it, waiting to say goodbye to his brother and have some time to relax by himself. It’s been an eventful few weeks, that’s for sure! But he’s excited to meet everyone else formally, to get assigned his own job, and to meet with Hux as frequently as possible. There’s much catching up to do, years and years worth of it.

Hux wasn’t there too often for the next couple of days. He had a lot of his own work to catch up on, and he mostly made sure Bill’s droid sent him updates, and that he could drop in to chat every day for just a couple of hours.

Until, one day, exhausted from doing his work at all the hours of day and night on top of giving all his free time to Bill, he actually fell asleep in his chair in the middle of their conversation.

Techie had been chattering about his day (mostly small, silly things, but it made him happy that Hux wanted to listen) when Hux suddenly pitched forward and fell asleep on the table.

He jumped up and was ready to panic, but- oh! He was asleep, not hurt. Thank the stars. Techie shrugged off his jacket and placed it gently over his brother’s shoulders.

Hux shivered at the touch and woke up, sitting up to look around. “Huh? What? I…” He looked around and his eyes locked on his brother. “Kriff. Did I fall asleep? I’m sorry…” He rubbed at his eyes. “It’s been a long day.”

Techie gives a fond huff and places his hand gently on Armitage’s shoulder. “You can always sleep h-here, whenever you want to get away.” He pauses and adds, “Did something big h-happen?”

“It’s not about getting away,” he sighed. “There’s so much work, I don’t really have the time to sleep much. And I don’t want to sleep when I come here. There’s so much more we could do!” He reached forward and took Techie’s hand.

“I just need to have more caf or something. Don’t you worry.”

“We can always t-talk next time you come, Armitage. I don’t m-mind if you take a nap!” Techie says, a little too quickly to be normal.

Kylo Ren, in full uniform, mask and hood on, knocked on the door to General Hux’s brother’s room. It was still shocking that Hux had a brother whom he wanted to help. But he was willing to give it a try.

@techiehux

Disheveled and lacking sleep, Techie slunk out of bed and staggered over to the door, typing in the unlock code and watching it whoosh open with glassy, red-rimmed eyes. He hadn’t slept in close to five cycles now, and at any moment he was liable to be knocked over by a stray breeze of recycled air.

When he sees who it is at the door, Techie freezes.

Kylo stared at the man, frozen as well for a moment. The man did not look well, and something inside of him made him feel… Bad for the boy.

“General Hux expressed a wish for us to become acquainted,” he finally said. “Is it a bad time?”

“Ah, n-no,” he replies, unfocused gaze drifting around a spot somewhere behind Ren. “You can…come inside.” Techie shifts to press himself against the doorway, a rather nonsensical way of letting him pass.

Kylo hesitated but entered the room and looked around. He then reached out to take his helmet off. “I do not mean to intimidate you,” he said. “The General told me about your general background. I hope you’re settling in nicely?”

Techie closes the door and stumbles over to sit on the edge of his bed. “Oh, th-thank you… It’s kind of you to ask, Commander Ren.”

For a moment, he debates on whether he should be totally honest. The other techs are cold to him, he doesn’t have any friends yet, and his horrible nightmares keep him up all night.

Techie hesitates for too long; the silence turns awkward.

He let the silence stretch for a while before sighing. “There is no need to be this formal. I do apologize if I was harsh to you earlier, my wish here is to make you feel safe on the Finalizer. Please do not be afraid of me.”

“It isn’t you,” Techie confesses. “Everything is scary to me. I’m in a new place, and getting adjusted is hard. I used to live in constant terror, and I don’t….know how to switch that off!”

He hangs his head and rubs at his eyes with his palms, they’re even more red around the rims, and the dark bags more pronounced.

He looked at the man in silence for a long moment before he spoke again.

“Do you want me to teach you? I could help you learn how to meditate. It allows a person to sleep in peace, to relax, to center on here and now, and drive the fears away.”

His eyes widen with sudden hope. There’s thinly veiled anxiety on his face, as though what he’s about to agree to do will leave him defenseless. “I… Th-thank you,” Techie breathes. “What sh-should I, um, do?”
