With a sigh of relief, Techie closes his eyes. “I’ll try,” he promises. Recovery is never an easy road. “When I’m b-better, can you show me around? Can I m-meet your friends?”

He’s worried and scared, that much is true. But a new start? That’s priceless. Techie resolves not to screw it up. He’ll make nice with all of Armitage’s friends and coworkers.

Techie backed up onto the bed again, gaze never leaving MD-38. The droid would have sighed with relief if it could!

Hux’s question brought him back to reality. His smile faltered and Techie rubbed at them, as if thinking of the red irritation around his eyes made it worse.

“I g-got along with whatever drops I could find around, but nothing ever h-helped much.” He’d need a professional transplant, more than anything, to fix the tangled mess of nerves and muscles left behind by MaMa’s cruelty. Techie gagged, the thought making him feel sick. His hand shot out to grab at Hux’s sleeve as an emotional anchor.

“I think I was the closest th-thing to a droid at Peach Trees,” Techie admits, eyes never leaving the droid. He seems lighter, less frail. “Could I really h-have this little guy? Wh-what’s it’s name?”

He slides off the cot and crouches before the beeping droid, looking it over with a small, sincere smile. Somebody sort of like me, Techie thinks, and feels less alone.

Techie was so shocked he could only stare at Phasma after the kiss, wide eyed. Kissing her hadn’t been part of his plan, or even crossed his mind, but now that it happened? There was no way he’d be thinking of anything else for weeks.

The tension drained from his shoulders, and he returned the hug. “Th-thank you, Hux. It means a l-lot to me…” Techie pressed a kiss to his brother’s cheek before pulling away, embarrassed. It wasn’t often he was affectionate.

techiehux:

“H-have me then,” Techie says invitingly, raking his nails over Ren’s overheated skin. He wraps his legs around his waist and hitches his skinny hips up to rub against Ren’s lap. Red hair spread out like a halo but smiling like a sinner, Techie hums with pleasure and licks the shell of Ren’s ear.

The question makes Techie pause. There isn’t much that turns him off, honestly. Even the sick, sick things MaMa did to him ended up twisting into secret, hushed kinks that he buries deep down.

He settles on: “Do wh-whatever you want!” With a sly wink, he pushes Ren’s underwear down and slips his fingers under the fabric.

“Th-that’s when I’ll be able to sneak you out for good. Anything b-before that, and we, uh, run the risk of getting caught. You’ll have to trust me on this, okay?” He was already on edge; having Nao mistrust him too would make this unbearable. “For now, you’ll stay here. With me.”

Predictably, Techie jumped out of his skin and scrambled to cover his eyes whether Nao was dressed or not. He’d set up a pile of blankets on the floor for him to sleep on, and he (tried) to step over it carefully. He tripped over it, of course; preserving Nao’s dignity took precedence over his ability to see just then.

“There are, um, c-clothes on the desk…” he said while he picked himself up, red-cheeked and eyes screwed shut.

She watched him and stopped herself from heading over to help him up after his fall. She instead stared and sighed noticing that she was lowering her guard around him. Could she really help it? He was endearing, for an older man. It was probably his attempt at preserving her dignity that sparked a gentler feeling inside her. ‘By this point, I probably couldn’t kill him.’ She notes as she walks over to the desk to grab the clothes he brought out for her. “Hey, thanks. Sorry.” She replies as she retreats back into privacy. “You can open your eyes now.” She calls in case he decided to keep himself blind, which she was sure he had.

Techie sighed with relief and opened his eyes. They whirred insistently as the crystalline lens flexed to accomodate and refocus the image before him: namely Nao, clean and dressed.

“Oh, g-good! I’m glad I can look now, being b-blinded isn’t something I like to do, even for- um, just a l-little bit.” There’s a hint of something off in his voice when he says that, but Techie continues on before she can question it:

“The, uh, bed’s ready. I’ll s-set up shop over here.” Techie lowers himself down onto the blankets and snuggles up, facing the ceiling, staring hard at it. It’ll be awkward if he stares at Nao the entire night, anyway.

My Brother’s Keeper

Hux was walking home from work when he got the text. It started out normal enough, his brother Techie (he hated being called by his birth name, William. Hux could understand that. He was the same way.) Was asking the usual questions: How was your day? Hows millie?

He thought nothing of it as he made his way to his apartment, greeting his tabby cat and feeding her to stop her persistant meows. But soon the texts became more worrying; his brother asking if he had a spare room and if he could crash for a few days. Hux had tried to pry the details out of him, but Techie was distressed and refusing to cooperate. His twin wouldn’t answer the phone, and Hux knew something bad must have happened.

Their father was strict, and Hux had been glad to move out and start his life away from home after college. Finances were not a glamorous career but it paid well. Even now in his late 20’s he felt comfortable and happy with his life.

Life for his twin Techie, however, seemed to only be one misfortune after another. His brother’s cripling anxiety and depression made the poor thing a shut in. Never moving away from home and jumping from one job to the next, Brendol breathing down his neck constantly to get his life together. They had been very close as children, but with Hux moving close to the city they drifted apart through lack of contact. He didn’t know any of the details of what was happening, but he suspected maybe their father got sick of Techie being a ‘useless freeloader’. While Hux didn’t think of his brother as useless, he did miss him dearly and felt guilt at the skip of joy in his heart at his sibling coming to stay, even if it was for a short time.

He sat down on the couch, sending another text as he put a pillow under his knees.

:Techie, I need to at least know your safe. If you have no were to stay tonight please drive here right away. I know it’s 2 hours away, but I promise you always have here to stay.:

He hit ‘send’, worrying his bottom lip as he waited for a response. Depending on how big the fight was with their father, techie could be staying longer then a few days. He ran a hand through his hair, trying not to stress over Techie’s worrying messages. Everything would be fine, and his brother would be visiting.

@techiehux

Over on his side of the screen, Techie scrubbed at his wet, red-rimmed eyes and squinted at the screen. If he went a little over the speed limit, he’d make it to Armitage’s apartment in an hour and forty minutes. Hopefully. Techie’s phone was about to die, battery icon an angry red and screen dimmer than even he was used to.

He worried at his bottom lip and put his phone on airplane mode before tossing it into the backseat. The battery needed to be conserved as much as possible! The charger he’d left with the majority of his things: back at the Hux “estate”.

Before continuing his drive towards his brother, Techie pressed his face into the hard leather of the steering wheel and pressed down, letting out a few messy, loud sobs as the car honked. What a fucking mess.

The closer he got to Armitage, the faster his heart fluttered (and the guiltier he felt.) Until, at last, he showed up on his twin’s doorstep, looking like a miserable wreck, and knocked tentatively.

Congrats? He’d only just met Phasma, and while the kiss was incredible and she seemed cool, this was too fast for him! They hadn’t even spoken properly to each other!

Techie gave an awkward lopsided smile, rigid and tense. He tried to use his brother senses to convey telepathically to Hux that maybe, just maybe, that hadn’t been the right thing to say…

With a sigh of relief, Techie closes his eyes. “I’ll try,” he promises. Recovery is never an easy road. “When I’m b-better, can you show me around? Can I m-meet your friends?”

Techie gives a pained smile, blinking his eyes slow to try and alleviate the itchy dryness of them. “I w-want that. I do.”

The droids beep angrily at being interrupted for so long. He turns to them and waves, almost childish. “Never s-seen a little r-robot like that! Is it saying something to you? C-Can you understand it?” Techie’s eyes whirr with excitement!
