A flash of red caught his eye. There weren’t that many red-heads around after all. “Hux! We need to discuss–” his vocoder voice cut off mid sentence as he finally got a decent look at the man. It wasn’t the General, but… “How…? Who are you?” he demanded. -kylocanyounot

Techie froze and felt ice run through his veins. Why is Kylo Ren, of all people, talking to him?! The blood is pulsing so hard in his ears that he doesn’t even know what the man is saying, and can only stare blankly at him.

“Um, ah,” he says, very intelligently.

And then bolts for the nearest exit.

“Oh, uh, I listen to weird st-stuff,” Techie confessed, but he fiddled with the player until a tune started playing: jazzy and energetic, with electronic sound effects thrown in. “Do you dance, Ren?”

He was terrified of making a fool of himself, but if Ren could smile just one more time, Techie would consider this entire night a victory.

A daughters distrust

With a heavy sigh, he takes her hand and walks towards Ren’s room. “C’mon, princess. L-let’s go reason with Ren.”

She looked at him with fear “that will only make him upset the last knight of ren who upset him was killed in front of me” she said fearfully

“He won’t k-kill me,” he assured her. Hux would have his head on a platter if Kylo so much as touched Techie. (Hopefully). “But maybe you should take a f-few steps back, um, in case…” He knocked on the door once more.

Techie looked pleased that the attraction was mutual judging by how his face lit up like a star, but he felt somewhat exasperated too. “Feelings aren’t something you can c-control or *explain*, Kylo. I don’t know much about you, that’s true. B-but I do know that I WANT to learn more. You’re f-fascinating, and powerful, and I actually mean something to you! You talk to me like I matter!”

His face pinked and he eyed some icing near Ren’s bottom lip. “There aren’t, um, a lot of people I can say that about.” All this time, he hadn’t tried to reach out and touch Ren, but without realizing it he’d begun to inch closer.

He added, embarrassed, “If it makes you f-feel better, I can say my feelings are only physical… That’s a l-lot easier to, uh, justify, right?”

“You DO matter!” he insists. He doesn’t know why he believes it so strongly but he does. Techie is important.

All the words he used to describe him were so positive . He don’t understand how he saw all that. He wondered if that was the eyes too? Making everything seem better somehow? It was unlikely, he knew.

Physical. That wasn’t terrible at all. Kylo needed to spend time with someone, something more than his thoughts. And he seemed to have a thing for red hair.

As if reading Techie’s mind, his tongue darted out to get the bit of icing, and he moved one hand up to card through the other’s hair, brushing it away from his face.

He made himself look so small but he burned very brightly; the only reason Kylo hadn’t sensed him before was likely how far down in the ship he lived.

The minute Ren’s hand smoothed back a strand of hair, Techie looked like he’d choked on his own tongue, and he shifted slightly forward to follow his retreating fingers. It was a little embarrassing, but Techie had been trying to get used to getting pleasant touches instead of “bad” ones, and now he was developing an intense need for affection.

To distract himself from the sudden ache for his touch, Techie excused himself a moment and pulled out something he’d salvaged from Mega City One; an old music player, which he’d fixed back up into working condition.

“What kind of m-music do you like?”

☎- drunk, questionable voicemail message

Kylo pressed a small button on his helmet, brows furrowed at the message. He knew who, just not wide. It played quietly to him inside the helmet, and thank the stars he was wearing it. He’s was three shades of red and fairly concerned.

He stalked down to the levels of the ship where he likely lived and using the information he could conjure up in the ship’s data bank found his room.

“What was that?!” He balked, still more embarrassed than anything, but at least hidden.

Techie lets out a snort of laughter. “That’s an understatem-ment if ever I’ve heard one!” He shakes his head and adds, “You should see H-Hux when he’s exhausted: p-puffing on a cigarra with bloodshot eyes and staring straight at a point on the wall for, ah, hours… super creepy!“

Techie tread carefully with his next words. "What do *you* d-do when you’re overworked?” He didn’t want to pry, but he worried for Ren. Certain things he had heard gave him a good *reason* to worry. It was possibly they were only rumors, but if not? Then Ren needed help.

All of a sudden, Techie paled. “We can’t l-let any troopers step on them if they’re all gonna be r-running around!” He hugged himself and shuddered.

There’d have to be special training for the stormtroopers to be mindful of the cats. What a nightmare for Hux and Phasma; designing a new training program because of Techie and his millions of kittens!

He laughed and ran a hand through his hair. “Pretty soon we’ll h-have a kitten village on-board!” What a nice thought. Cats, everywhere. Fluffy, adorable cats! His heart hurt, but it was a pleasant ache.

Oh shit. He’d made a huge mistake leaving Adeline with Kylo Ren! He pulled her into a bear hug and kissed the top of her hair. “Addie, are y-you miserable with Ren?” Techie was terrified of her answer.
