What a good idea! Why hadn’t he thought of getting a pet before? It seemed like the kind of thing his therapist would recommend he do. “That’s awesome!” he grins, and claps his hands in childish glee. “I want one cat! N-no, three!”

Techie was probably going to go a little overboard.

A flash of red caught his eye. There weren’t that many red-heads around after all. “Hux! We need to discuss–” his vocoder voice cut off mid sentence as he finally got a decent look at the man. It wasn’t the General, but… “How…? Who are you?” he demanded. -kylocanyounot

Techie froze and felt ice run through his veins. Why is Kylo Ren, of all people, talking to him?! The blood is pulsing so hard in his ears that he doesn’t even know what the man is saying, and can only stare blankly at him.

“Um, ah,” he says, very intelligently.

And then bolts for the nearest exit.

Even though Techie was having trouble looking at Ren directly after the kiss, his pupils dilated so fast and so hard they made an audible whirr. Voice shaking with shame, he confesses, “I l-like to be hurt, sometimes.” Spending his puberty amongst cruel gangsters hadn’t helped.

Then he turns his red-cheeked face towards Ren and meets his gaze. “And if it’s you, I m-mind even less.” Techie’s fingers curl into the hem of his dress shirt anxiously.

A daughters distrust

He stopped when she spoke again and peered at her with watery, hopeful eyes. “I’ll talk with Ren and s-see if he can give you a break and lighten up a little. Life can’t be ALL work!”

There’s something in his eyes that begs Ren not to probe further. One more little push and Techie is certain he’ll say something he shouldn’t. “Let’s eat some c-cake,” he offers instead, anxious.

Somehow he catches the hint. But it only adds to he questions.

“I’ve never had much cake. Maybe twice before? Homemade stuff. Nothing with so much color, though. Or, lack of, I guess?”

He cuts a slice and puts it onto a paper plate with a sunflower-themed trim. As he sticks a plastic spoon into the cake’s icing and hands it to Ren, Techie asks, “Do you like cake though? I’d h-hate to make you something you don’t like!”

Inwardly, he wondered why sadness flickered on Ren’s face when he gave him the wire figures…

He scoops up a generous bite in his spoon and gracelessly pops it into his mouth, mushing it around about in his mouth. “I wouldn’t eat it everyday, but I like it. It’s not dry or too sweet or mushy. You made it? Painted it up and everything?”

-for me…?-

Finally, what he’d been holding back rushed out of Techie all at once: he leapt up and pressed a quick kiss to Kylo’s lips. The sight of Ren enjoying the cake he’d made himself was too sweet to pass up.

“B-because I like you…” he confesses, heart pounding. This man is kind, gentle, and beautiful. How could Techie ever want anyone else?

He was about to reply when he saw his door. “We’re here,” he sighed, relieved. A few quick numbers punched in and the door unlocked for them, sliding open. Techie motioned for Nao to get inside quickly.

He reeled back as if burned “Okay, he said, voice pained, “Okay. T-take care, Adeline.” Techie jumped to his feet and speed-walked away, wiping at his damp eyes with his yellow sleeve. “As long as she’s safe, nothing else matters,” he chanted to himself, desperate to believe it.

“That’s good! Oh, I’m so p-proud of you, Addie!” He hesitated but finally pulled her into a tight hug. His heart ached like never before. “I missed you s-so much, baby girl…”

“ once I complete my training father, I’ll be a higher rank” she said flatly.

Her voice was so devoid of emotion he actually flinched and loosened the hug. What happened to her?

“I haven’t been busy l-lately, so if you want we could spend some, ah, time together again! It’s been so long, Addie.” He knelt down to her level and placed his hands gently on her shoulders. “Would you like th-that?”

He smiled softly at Pudge and crooned, “Is th-that your mum?” Then, to Phasma: “The cat’s over h-here, Captain.”

Phasma removed her helmet and walked towards the kitten, who greeted her with a mew. “Thank you, Techie, for taking care of her!” she said with a smile, picking up the kitten and giving Techie a kiss on the cheek

Techie kindly brushed off her praise. “No need to thank me, I didn’t do, uh, m-much.” He watched Pudge wiggle in Phasma’s arms with soft eyes. “I wish I had a kitten too,” he sighed.
